eCognition PIPEMON builds on cognition technology and thus uses for the classification and information fusion process a hierarchical network of objects and a fuzzy rule base.

This automated classification process allows the user of eCognition PIPEMON to make full use of remote sensing information with no or minimum remote sensing expertise. The inherent fuzzy classification process creates automatically a suitability map from the different types of information present, ranging from ground movement measurements, via historical and recent land cover on different scales to specific knowledge about the land owner. The fuzzy rule base gives detailed insight into the applied rules and used information. It serves as basis for later certification of the process and simplifies the exchange of suitability maps between experts of the same or different planning departments.

The parameters of the rule base are easy accessible to the pipeline planning expert and allow a fast and easy adaptation of the rule base to specific conditions or circumstances.
